One of the highlights of Mila and Hans Swart's 1976 trek was being present during a visit of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama to Lamayuru Monastery.

Crowds of refugee Tibetans from all over Ladakh, dressed in their finery, turned out to meet him and listen to his message.
In 2008 Mila Jansen returned to Lamayuru with the original film, now digitized, and all the photos from the 1976 visit.

Many of the monks at Lamayuru Monastery recognized themselves as young monks in the 1976 photos.

This short film shows the unseen 1976 footage together with a report of the exhibition held in 2008 and was presented to His Holiness in the autumn of 2009.
