EYE TO EYE WITH EVEREST
We followed the brave attempt of Dr Thomas Weber and his amazing attempt to be the first visually impaired climber to reach the North Face of the World's highest mountain, Mount Everest at 8850m. Thomas wanted to inspire people to push the boundaries of human endeavor and in the process raise funds for the Tilganga Eye Clinic based in Katmandu. Unfortunately only 50m from achieving his goal, Thomas was forced to turn back. Then during his descent he suddenly collapsed and died. We were also involved in the dramatic rescue story of the Australian climber Lincoln Hall. After successfully reaching the summit he fell pray to H.A.C.E, a deadly form of mountain sickness. Believing he was on board a yacht, he refused to move from an 8700m ledge. After a brave 12 hour attempt by his Sherpa team to save his life, the decision was made to turn back leaving Lincoln to face the night against unspeakable odds. Fate was on Lincoln's side, as dawn approached he was discovered by an American guide called Dan Mazur, alive but suffering from exposure and frostbite. He was dragged of the mountain by a fresh team of 11 Sherpa's. Shot on Sony HDV, we spent a total of nine weeks on location in Nepal and Tibet capturing some of the culture and splendour of these relatively unknown countries. We are grateful to all our general sponsors for their help. Also see our film website at www.sightoneverest.com for more details This film will be dedicated to Thomas Weber and Igor Pushkin, a fellow team member who also lost his life on the mountain. We miss you. We also wish to thank our Sherpas and our Tibetan support staff for all their amazing help, support and their genuine friendship.
